Youth Worship Arts
Sunday Nights from 4:00-7:30
On Sunday nights, Maples offers several worship arts activities for Youth members to participate in!
Youth Orchestra - 4:00-5:00
Any and all Youth members who can play a band instrument, such as those used in marching band or school orchestras, are invited to come participate in the Maples Orchestra. This orchestra will perform during the Traditions service about once a month and will have a piece in the Maples Dinner Theatre in December and the Worship Arts Tour in May 2023. It is led and conducted by a professional band director.
Youth Choir - 5:30-6:30
Youth choir is our Youth singers coming together to perform. This choir will perform a piece during the Traditions and Connection service about once a month, and will perform several christmas songs during the Dinner Theatre in December and several worship songs during the Worship Arts Tour in May 2023. Any and all youth interested in singing are invited, regardless of skill level. Complexity of the songs will be taylored to the general skill level of the choir, so there is no chance that anyone is going to be out of their depth or overwhelmed. This choir is led by Center Hill Choral Director and Maples Organist Allen Sanders.
Drama - 6:30-7:00 and 7:00-7:30
The Youth Drama Department will be working on skits and acting pieces from writing to performance at the Dinner Theatre in December and during the Worship Arts Tour in May 2023. Youth will be acting in a mix of pre-written skits and skits that they will write during this time. The Drama time will be split into two blocks, one or both of which can be replaced with a creative block. During the first block, they will be working on simple, pre-written skits and readings for worship services, and during the second block, they will be writing and practicing their own skits. The Drama blocks will be led by Director of Media Ministries and Communications Brennan Ballard and Desoto Family Theatre Veteran LisaLynn Treadway.
Creative - 6:30-7:00 and 7:00-7:30
The worship arts creative element will explore a variety of physical art for Youth to participate in, such as knitting paraments for liturgical seasons, painting, crafting, and drawing. This time will be divided into two blocks, one or both of which can be replaced with a drama block. The creative blocks will be led by a professional artist.
We will also be offering a snack supper at 5:00!
In addition to performances they'll be making during worship services about once a month, these are the events that youth will be working towards while at Worship Arts on Sunday night.
Christmas Dinner Theatre - December 16th
The Maples Christmas Dinner Theatre is a tradition that is coming back this year! The Youth will be serving food to guests and performing their skits and songs and presenting their art projects! All proceeds from this events will go to a local mission project of the Youth's choosing.
Worship Arts Tour to Cincinnati Ohio - May 28th-June 2nd 2023
All participating Youth members will be taking their songs, skits, and art on the road at the end of the school year! We will be traveling to Cincinnati Ohio on the week of Memorial Day 2023, visiting landmarks and attractions there and on the way. We will be performing mission work in Cincinnati, and performing our art for several church bodies and mission projects. This will be paid for with three different payments over the course of the school year. See Joey Lott for more details.
Active participation is highly encouraged for whatever worship arts elements Youth are interested in. If a Youth member is not interested whatsoever in one of these blocks and cannot muster any interest, then consider arranging it options so that they're not there for that block.
If a student wants to be a part of the Dinner Theatre and the Worship Arts Tour, attendance is necessary. We cannot put anything together if we cannot have a consistent body to work with. Students and parents will be asked to sign a covenant not to miss more than 5 days of worship arts over the course of a semester in order to remain eligible for the Dinner Theatre and Worship Arts Tour.
