Important Covid-19 Protocol Update

In response to the rapid rise in Covid-19 cases in DeSoto County, particularly for children, the Maples Leadership Team has elected to make the following changes to our protocol:

-We have returned to roping off every other row in the sanctuary in order to increase social distancing. Please do not sit in a roped off row and please do not remove the ropes.

-Children under the age of 12 will be required to wear their mask indoors unless they are in the sanctuary and socially distanced with their family group. Children under the age of 2 will not be required to wear a mask. Teachers of classes with children under 12 in them should also wear a mask while in the classroom.

-Children aged 2-4 participating in the Maples Learning Center's preschool program do not have to wear a mask. However, school-aged children participating in the MLC's after school program WILL be required to wear a mask.

-As always, Maples encourages everyone to acquire a Covid-19 vaccine or wear a mask if they choose not to. You can find more information on Covid-19 vaccines here.

How to Become a Member of Maples

Please contact a Maples staff member if you are interested in membership. Persons inquiring about membership are expected to attend the “Discovering Maples” Class. The 8-week class covers the history of the United Methodist Church, the Local Church, Wesleyan Theology, Sacraments, Church Organization and other helpful information. Class dates will be published.

There are 4 ways to join Maples Memorial United Methodist Church:

1. By Profession of Faith and Baptism*
If you are not now a baptized Christian, the minister will be happy to discuss the meaning of the Sacrament of Baptism with you. Conversation about what a profession of faith means will take place at the same time.

2. By Transfer From Another United Methodist Church*
Mark the "I would like: To join Maples Memorial UMC" column on the Information Pad and a member of the church staff will contact you. You may request that we write your letter of transfer — it is not necessary for you to write your former church, Maples can handle the details of transfer for you! You may also call the church at the number listed below during normal office hours, 9:00 A.M.– 5:00 P.M. or you may e-mail your request to .

3. By Transfer From Another Christian Denomination*
The process is very much like the one above. Since you are already baptized and confirmed, these steps will not be repeated. You will be asked to take the one vow taken by all members of the United Methodist Church: "Will you be loyal to the United Methodist Church and Maples and uphold it by your prayers, your presence, your gifts and your service?"

4. How to "Join" Without "Joining"
If you are a United Methodist whose membership is in another city or state and you wish to retain membership in your "home" church, you can become an Affiliate Member of Maples Memorial UMC. This grants you pastoral oversight, fellowship and participation at Maples. You will not be counted on Maple's membership roll, but at your "home" church. We will write your "home" church informing them of your Affiliate Member status at Maples. Members of other Christian denominations may elect to become Associate Members under the same conditions as Affiliate Members.

* - Each prospective member is encouraged to meet with the minister.
